Jena Hudson returns to Texas to finalize the sale of her deceased aunt's ranch to her neighbor. The last thing she expected was to find her very own rugged, sexy cowboy in Harmon Steel.

Harm and Jena forge a white hot connection, but he learned a long time ago that happy-ever-afters don’t exist. Living in-the-moment is the best he has to offer.

So what's a girl to do when she finds out the man capable of fulfilling her steamiest fantasies doesn't believe in a happy ending? Given the right set of circumstances, she'll create one for him.

Note HARM'S HUNGER is a novella and meant for mature readers. This is the first story in the hot and steamy BAD IN BOOTS series. All the other books are novel length and each book is a stand alone story.

The story telling was rushed and trite due to the novella format.
The quality of the mechanics of writing was quite good. Too bad it was wasted on a short, improbable story.
Too bad also that his author has given in to the current trend of writing a free tease and then continuing the story in the next book. This download included an excerpt from the next book which is okay; consider it a lengthy commercial to sell the next book. Read it or don't. I won't.

This download also contains information about another set of books by this author. I checked those out and they are in serial form, not a series. In other words, this author has fallen for the CLIFF HANGER form of writing. What a shame, because if the writer has skill, and this one does, then readers would buy her books whether she writes as Patrice Michelle or P.T.Michelle as in the CLIFF HANGER set of "books" mentioned at the end of this novella. I don't support CLIFF HANGER writers and have added Ms. Michelle's name to my list of authors to avoid.

Harm Hunger Book 1 Bad in Boots edition by Patrice Michelle PT Michelle Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Jena Hudson is visiting Texas to sign over her portion of her aunt's ranch with her brother for the neighbor Harmon Steele. Jena unknowingly meets him in the hotel's elevator and experiences some unexpected steamy chemistry with the ruggedly sexy cowboy. She even manages to invite the man to her hotel room before heading downstairs again to meet up with her brother. When they say their good-byes, they both think they'll never see each other again. But just when Jena meets back up with her brother, Harm enters the room and Jena is dumbfounded that this is the neighbor she's supposed to sign her portion of the ranch to, no question. Rather than playing along with her brother and agreeing to quickly sign the deed and be done with it, Jena decides she wants to see the place once more. After all, she is fond of the place. Harm agrees to take her there, hoping that she'll soon agree she wants nothing to do with the place and nobody would be better to take care of the property than him. Once they're driving on the road to the ranch, a storm begins and visibility is reduced around the truck. Suddenly, the vehicle is sliding into a ditch and Harm is knocked unconscious. Jena is forced to create a fantasy past with them when Harm temporarily loses his memory. As things seem to quickly escalate between them, Harm can't believe how lucky he got with Jena, no matter that he's always told himself marriage isn't for him. The more mesmerized he becomes with her, the more he believes they could have a fulfilling relationship. But there is one thing Jena hadn't counted on... she needs to be honest with herself, as well as Harm, the depth of her fantasy with him...

Honestly, this book was not what I was expecting when I picked it up. And I thought it would be shorter, considering it is a novella.
The writing was decent, but I'm not sure there was much character development and things moved pretty fast. Don't get me wrong, I realize that pre-marital sex happens more now than ever, but they mess around after just a few minutes in an elevator, and within thirty they are in her hotel room, taking it to the next level....

(Spoiler warning)

I just feel it moved too fast. The short story takes place over a 24 hour period and it goes from meeting in an elevator, to Harm getting amnesia from hitting his head, to a night of passionate love making, to a marriage proposal. I feel like Jena should've been honest from the get go about him not remembering who she is. Granted, it did work out for the best. Harm wasn't mad about it and ended up asking her to marry him anyway. It was sort of a "While You were Sleeping" storyline, with a bit more deception.

I'm giving it three stars because the love scenes were hot and steamy. The mechanics of the writing looked to be done well and proofread well, but I'm not ranking it higher just for the reasons stated above. I know it's a short story and doesn't have time to delve deep into the characters, but a little bit of character development would've been nice. I'm suspicious of Jena for moving so fast in an elevator (does she hop into bed with every guy that fast) and for Harm, who moves fast with her but when he has his memory loss, blatantly states he's not into casual sex.... so was he lying?

If you're looking for a sexy story with not much plot, this is the book for you. If you want something deeper, this isn't for you.
